Laboite Theatre Company
La Boite is a story of people, passion, purpose and place. Representation, diversity and respect are our values. In 2018 La Boite Theatre Company continues to develop and present vital new Australian work.
In an increasingly uncertain world, which is overflowing with toxic masculinity, dubious leadership and fake news, we seek to provide a salve to these ails. Or reflect them, shout at them, embrace them – at the very least, we always seek to talk about them.
It is no surprise that our 2018 season has a vital and strong group of female artists leading the charge. La Boite has been heavily influenced through its 90+ year history by formidable and talented women, from Barbara Sisley and Babette Stephens to Jennifer Blocksidge and Sue Rider. In 2018, our season tackles global issues, personal narratives, innovative forms, and a host of exciting new collaborations.
The 2018 season will also see the return of two beautiful and successful works – The Village and Future D. Fidel’s Prize Fighter. Clearly demonstrating a hunger for diverse stories, and human connection, you will have the opportunity to engage with these works if you missed them the first time, or relive their power and beauty for a second time. Prize Fighter will be touring nationally in 2018 and this time around you can see the work in a special presentation at Logan Entertainment Centre.
In March 2018 we will once again be presenting our HWY Festival of new work, featuring conversations, workshops and presentations of exciting new ideas that we are developing for future seasons, as well as a host of local artists presenting new work at various stages of development.
In 2018 we continue our commitment to accessible theatre by once again offering all preview tickets at $30. New work needs testing in the crucible of the live audience experience. Previews are a working time for our artists and productions may still need to develop during these performances, but if you’re passionate about the process then get in early and grab a bargain!
There are lots of ways you can support La Boite, including through making a donation, becoming a corporate partner or volunteering.
Each year we’re delighted to share with you our program of exciting productions that bring together our most talented local and national artists, engage in the discourse around the stories we tell and encourage you to participate in your La Boite
So get along, get involved and be a part of La Boite – we are your theatre.
At La Boite, we acknowledge the country on which we work, and the traditional custodians of this land – the Turrbal and Jagera people. We give our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging.
We honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the First Australians, whose lands, winds and waters we all now share, and their ancient and enduring cultures. This country was the home of storytelling long before La Boite existed, and we are privileged and grateful to share our stories here today.

La Boite is a member of Theatre Network Australia .
We endorse the Theatre Network NSW Code of Behaviour and the principles of Responsibility, Raising Awareness and Reporting within that Code. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive workplace for all our artists, employees, audiences and collaborators. We have zero tolerance for harassment and bullying and we are currently reviewing our relevant policies and procedures to ensure best practice.
Over 90 years of existence takes resilience and ingenuity. La Boite has survived two World Wars, censorship, public outrage, politically-charged programming, changing tastes, floods and the constant flirting with failure that comes with walking the tightrope between risk and certainty. Ultimately, La Boite’s history is your history. Whether you have been with us for years or are new to the fold, we welcome you to share your stories.
