Co-created with Todd MacDonald, Aleea Monsour, and Ari Pilani with an ensemble of seven local story-tellers.
From the creators of The Village.
Written and performed by asylum seeker, refugee and migrant Australians, The Neighbourhood marks the inaugural collaboration between La Boite Theatre Company and Empire Theatres in Toowoomba.
This in-theatre companion work to La Boite’s hugely successful production of The Village continues our important work with re-settlement organisation MDA, and brings together seven real stories, told by real people, for an intimate story-telling experience that takes us across countries, borders, and oceans in search of home.
The Neighbourhood tracks seven individual journeys from the experience of fleeing their homelands to seeking refuge and creating, fostering and discovering a new community (or neighbourhood) in Australia.
Written and co-created by the story-tellers themselves, The Neighbourhood traverses a range of story-telling forms, including live music, poetry, verbatim, and documentary theatre.
This new work promises 60 minutes of honest, authentic, and deeply moving theatre.
