Rutherford and Son by Githa Sowerby
Rutherford and Son was the first play that Babette Fergusson (later Stephens) appeared in for Brisbane Repertory. She was the star of the production. The Daily Mail reported that “The acting honours go unreservedly to Miss Babette Fergusson who gives a polished and realistic interpretation of the role of Janet, daughter of Rutherford” (September 27, 1930). And Stead’s Review (November 1, 1930) stated, “Hail to a real actress at last among the cohorts of engaging and accomplished amateur players!”
