Australia’s oldest continuously running theatre company, Brisbane’s La Boite Theatre has been telling stories and making theatre for over a century.

From its wandering beginnings as the Brisbane Repertory Theatre Society in 1925 — performing wherever a stage could be found across a young, growing city — to its first Roundhouse home on Hale Street, where it became known as La Boite, and now to its vibrant home in Kelvin Grove, this small but mighty theatre with a big heart has spent generations bringing audiences together and stories to life.

Today, La Boite stands as a bold, inclusive home for new Australian stories and contemporary voices that reflect the richness and diversity of Brisbane and beyond.

La Boite continues to push the boundaries of theatre, building pathways for local and national artists to bring their work to mainstream stages, and forging powerful connections between artists and audiences through stories that entertain, move, empower, and surprise.

Our work is grounded in cultural equity, social cohesion, and a deep sense of individual and collective responsibility. We are proud to sustain Queensland-based artistic practice and to have a long and proven history of nurturing artists as they grow from emerging to established careers.
