General Auditions
La Boite are holding general auditions for casting consideration across La Boite’s Mainstage and development programs. We’re keen to meet new artists, and forge new creative relationships, which may lead to work with us in the future.
If we have seen your work or worked with you in the last two years, there is no need to apply to audition, but we ask that you still submit an expression of interest below.
General Auditions will be held across May 21 – 23, 2024. Once you’ve submitted an EOI, the La Boite team will be in touch to let you know if you are successful in obtaining an audition and to organise a date and time.
Applications for general auditions are now closed. You will receive a response to your application by Friday 10 May, 2024.
#FAQ'S
If successful, what do I need to prepare?
We will ask to see two contrasting pieces of around 1-2 minutes of your choosing. This could be a classic and a contemporary monologue from a play, or some original writing, etc. – if you feel like it shows off your abilities, we want to see it!
I’m not based in Queensland, but want to do a general audition – can I apply?
Not this time - we’re keen on prioritising Queensland-based actors.
Who will I be auditioning for?
La Boite’s Artistic Director & CEO, Courtney Stewart, and our Senior Producer, Jess Bunz.
Do I need to have an acting degree or similar to audition?
No! We’re keen to see actors from all different backgrounds, and understand every artist has a different journey to the stage.
Why was I not successful in obtaining an audition?
This could be for several reasons! Unfortunately, we only have a certain number of spots to offer auditionees, and are prioritising artists we’re not familiar with. We might have seen your work on stage or on film, you may have auditioned for us in the past, or we may have collaborated in some other way recently. Please rest assured that General Auditions are not the only opportunity for us to see your work – La Boite’s Artistic Team are constantly attending shows and events where possible, and if we can’t see your audition this time, invite us to your next performance!
What will the audition process look like beyond General Auditions?
The La Boite Artistic team will get to know you by seeing your work in performance, or role-specific auditions for shows and projects.
Our shows, readings and projects are cast by the director working with La Boite’s Artistic Director and Senior Producer. We will cast shows by invitation or audition. Depending on the project and creative team, we will occasionally cast nationally, though most actors we work with are Brisbane-based.
La Boite Theatre welcomes and encourages First Nations, Culturally and/or Linguistically Diverse, d/Deaf and disabled and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTIQA+) artists to apply for our general auditions.
