Donna Hughes is a playwright based on Whadjuk Noongar land (Fremantle). She writes contemporary stories that are playful, punchy and unpredictable. When an idea grabs her, she runs with it, as fast as she can. Donna’s plays traverse vast subject matter, from subversive technology to surf trips, heists to high school hijinks. She writes vibrant, textured characters, drawn from her time living in metro and regional Western Australia and honing her ear for distinctively Australian stories. Her plays include Treading Water (2016), Disconnected (2019), Ground Swell (2020), Trackers (2020) Isolation in Lockdown (2020) and It was Tuesday (2021).
