A script suspended in time, celebrating Fliss Morton’s wit, creativity and memory.

A Staged Reading of Fliss Morton’s Final Work
Over the course of 2022, independent playwright, director and producer Fliss Morton was involved in Playlab’s Incubator program, where she developed a new work titled Sex & Slumberlands. Her latest draft was submitted in November 2022.
Forever looking forward, Fliss immediately began discussions with friends, industry colleagues and mentors to determine what was next.
To honour the future that Fliss, and many others, saw in this work, and to celebrate her artistry, we are proud to present a staged reading of her final piece at La Boite’s Roundhouse Theatre.
Sex & Slumberlands is a play about queer identity, desire and the struggle for self-acceptance, set predominantly in a mattress store on the brink of bankruptcy — true to Fliss form.
In Fliss’ own words,
“...this piece is nestled in the current moment as the rising
acceptance of queerness leads to larger volumes of youth getting their hands
dirty and experimenting. It’s an exciting time to be alive, but with this
freedom comes great responsibility, especially given the frequent disparity
between outward and inward acceptance. It takes two to tango, so this piece
investigates this duality, especially when parties are at different phases on
their route to self-acceptance.”
